I know it’s cliché. We’ve all heard life coaches drone on about the “power of showing up.” But honestly? It really is the most basic thing you can do—and for me, one of the hardest.
Showing up is the gatekeeper to every opportunity:
- Showing up to class to actually learn.
- Showing up to that dreaded job interview.
- Showing up to a doctor’s appointment you’ve been avoiding.
Why is it so hard? Is it just procrastination? I think it’s deeper. It’s because there’s no guarantee of success. In a video game, I know what I’m getting. In the real world, I’d often rather stay in the game than show up to something where I might fail.
That’s the real problem. It takes balls to show up when you don’t know the outcome.
So, yeah, it’s “cliché” advice, but it’s good advice.
That’s why I’m here. I’m showing up to write this blog even though there’s no guarantee anyone will read it (except maybe the bots—Hi bots! 🤖).
Showing up in a small way is still showing up. I’m taking this as a win. 🙂
